Urmibergstrasse

Urmibergstrasse enjoys a breathtaking uninterrupted view over Vierwaldstättersee and the Urner Alps. The secluded surroundings, South-facing aspect, private garden and large balcony give a perfect vantage point to enjoy the heart of Switzerland.

The house is located on a mountainside above the town of Brunnen, near the border between the cantons of Schwyz and Uri and close to the Urner Alps. This provides a perfect base for ski mountaineering, downhill skiing, some of Switzerland's best valley ice climbing, Alpine mountaineering, walking, mountain biking, surfing and kayaking on Vierwaldstättersee, etc. Discounts are available for UKClimbing members, AMA members and serving and retired members of armed forces. Further discounts may also be available for vistors depending on the activity planned.

The house includes a living room (large with large balcony and breathtaking uninterrupted view), bedroom (small, uninterrupted view), kitchen, bathroom, small general purpose room and a spare room in the basement (medium sised, in basement but with view of garden, warm and dry).

As well as the warmth of the Alpine sun, the house has electric heating and a modern wood burning stove. It's equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, electric cooker, fridge and dehumidifier for drying gear (there's currently no tumble dryer or TV). There's one double bed in the house plus plenty of space for sleeping bags - another bed can be provided on request. The house is situated in its own large private garden which clings to the sunny but steep mountainside.
Urmibergstrasse is 2km by car or by foot from Brunnen train station, bus station and a small CoOp at the train station. The house is up a narrow, steep mountain road followed by a track with no public transport, parking space is limited because of steepness of the slope. Winter tires are effectively mandatory in winter in Switzerland and if snowfall is expected a 4 wheel drive vehicle is recommended. The house is 2.5 km from resteraunts, pubs, tourist information office, larger shops and Brunnen ferry terminal. Parking space at the house is sufficient for a small to medium-sised car but not for a minibus, etc. Because of the steepness of the road and the risk of small rocks tumbing onto the road, up-to-date motor insurance is recommended.

The path leading from the track to the house is narrow, rough, steep and has no hand rail and so is unfortunately not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

Booking and advice available in English.

Although the house is beautiful, it does have some disadvantages. There is a strong mobile phone signal but currently no broadband or WiFi - if you would like this please let me know and I'll get it installed. The house and garden are on steep ground and so aren't suitable for young children or anyone who might have difficulty on moderately steep ground. Because of the steepness of the ground and a dangerous drop between part of the garden and the road, children or anyone who is frail or inebriated must be supervised by a responsible person at all times. The house was built in the 1960s and hasn't been renovated since so decor is basic. Furniture is also basic. There's a slight damp smell in the house - we're currently trying to get rid of it and the situation is improving. The water supply is from a nearby spring and not treated. Anyone who suffers from any form of impaired imune function should seek advice from a doctor before drinking the water.
